Breast Surgeries

advanced cosmetic surgery

There are two ways to have breast surgery: A woman can either have breast reconstruction with implants or her own tissue. The doctor can create new breast tissue using the woman's fat and lower abdominal wall segments. A woman can also have a nipple-sparing or skin-sparing mastectomy. Both will cause scarring. Breast surgeries may not be for everyone.

Breast reduction surgery

Most breast reductions are done outpatient. After the procedure, the patient may experience some swelling and discoloration, but the swelling will eventually disappear. The stitches and bandages will be removed within a few days. Patients should refrain from engaging in strenuous activity for approximately a month. There will be some discomfort after a breast reduction, but they will become less noticeable and more natural over time. The results of the surgery will be seen six months to a year after the procedure.

Following surgery, the surgeon will make incisions along the natural breast crease. These incisions will be used to remove excess fat and skin. Some women may also need to have their arches raised. The surgeon will close the incision using either internal or external dissolvable sutures. The patient may need to remain in the hospital for up to an overnight period during recovery. The patient will be discharged afterward. The entire procedure will take between two and five hours.

Nipple-sparing mastectomy

A Nipple sparing mastectomy is an alternative treatment to radiation for breast cancer. This procedure preserves the patient's natural looking breast while avoiding the risks associated with radiation treatment. However, not all women who undergo this surgery will want to avoid radiation. Around 30% of new cases might not have radiation treatment after having a complete mastectomy. This type of surgery can be done for women with small or large breasts.

Although this type of surgery may not be widely available, the results are excellent. It preserves the entire envelope of breast skin, including the nipple and the darker circle of skin surrounding it. A breast reconstruction is usually performed right after a NSM. It is still not used widely for mastectomy but has become a popular alternative to other breast cancer treatments. Its benefits outweigh their disadvantages.

Mastectomy for skin saving

A skin-sparing mastectomy is a surgical procedure in which all of the breast skin, excluding the nipple and areola, is preserved. This allows for breast reconstruction without scarring. The surgeon will then use a flap, or an implant to replace the volume. There are two types. A TRAM flap and a Latissimus. Each one uses the tissues and muscles of the body in order to reconstruct the breast.

There are several benefits to skin-sparing mammectomy, including preservation of the native and inframammary skin envelopes. The cosmetic results of a breast reconstruction are improved by the preservation of the native skin and inframammaryfold. It can also reduce the need for contralateral simetrizing surgery. However, skin-sparing matectomies come with a variety of risks.

Modified radical mastectomy

Modified radical mastectomy is a good option if you are worried about the risks associated with a mastectomy. A modified radical mastectomy reduces the amount of tissue removed from the breast and lymph nodes. This type also preserves breast tissue. But, not all surgeons have the training to perform these types. It is important to consult your doctor before you decide which type of surgery to have.

Although many hospitals now offer traditional modified radical breastectomy, this method is not widely utilized. Modified radical mastectomy techniques are geared towards protecting the anterior nerve and the intercostobrachial. This is done to preserve nerves that are essential for sensory functions. These techniques can be compared to those of Halsted Meyer, Patey and Meyer. Moore61 in 1867 described one such method.
