Cosmetic surgery is a common procedure with many positive outcomes for patients. However, it can also lead to serious complications. The risks are not always fully disclosed to patients which can create a lot of stress for them. There are inherent risks to surgery as it is an invasive procedure. Some of these risks can be more serious than others.
Vicarious experience
Vicarious trauma can occur when a person experiences traumatic events through the experiences of a loved one. Professional help is available to help with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. You can talk to your family and friends about your concerns. Even though it is difficult to talk about, loved ones should not be taken personally by the reactions. They should try to continue their daily routines and maintain contact with friends and family members.

Self-rated attractiveness
A recent study looked at the relationships between self-rated psychological well-being and physical attractiveness among adolescents. Participants were asked to rate themselves on their physical attractiveness, self-reported self-harm and suicidal thoughts. The results found that male adolescents rated themselves as more attractive than their female counterparts. However, in girls, self-rated beauty was negatively associated to internalized distress. These associations were statistically significant in girls only and only in relation to self-harmed behavior and suicidal ideation.
Religiousness
In a new study, researchers found that religiousness influences whether people consider cosmetic surgery. Specifically, individuals who are more religious were less likely to have cosmetic surgery than nonreligious individuals. It is still unclear if there is a relationship between religion and the risks of cosmetic surgery.
Household income
This study showed a strong correlation between household incomes as well as the risk of having cosmetic surgery. These results indicate that people with higher incomes are more likely than those with lower incomes to have this procedure. The researchers used the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics' measure of gross household income to assess SES. It is a widely accepted method of assessing SES and has been shown to reflect health disparities among different socioeconomic groups.
Liquid silicone facial injections
Although liquid silicone injections are very popular for cosmetic surgery, there are some risks. Some patients may experience transient bruising and swelling. Others may develop serious complications such inflammatory reactions. Also, liquid silicone injectables may move into other parts, causing irreparable damage. Extreme cases may even lead to a heart attack.

Infections
Infections after cosmetic surgery are a serious risk for patients. Although infections are rare, they can happen despite antibacterial treatment. Different microorganisms can cause these infections. Most often, they are caused mostly by Staphylococci/Streptococci. But, there have been reports of infections by non-tuberculous mecobacteria. These infections are difficult to detect using standard gram staining, and may be resistant to most antibacterial drugs.
